"Do I need to trim my wicks?" And Other Common Candle Care Questions

To answer that first question, yes!

It is very important to trim your candle wicks in-between burns. Candle wicks should be trimmed to approximately 1/4" prior to each burn. Doing this allows your candle to have a clean, even burn each time and increases your candles burn time. This means more value for you! You can use a pair of regular scissors or a wick trimmer.

Burn your candle long enough to avoid "tunneling"

Each time you light your candle, ensure you let it burn until the wax pool reaches the edge of the container. This usually takes about 1-2 hours. Your wax has a "memory" and if you don't let the candle burn to the edges, there is a high chance that it will begin to "tunnel" the next time.

But don't burn it for too long!

It is recommended to not burn your candle for more than 4 hours. After 4 hours, your wick may get too long and fold over into the wax. Leave your candle to cool for at least 2 hours before relighting it.

By following these three simple guidelines, you can ensure you get the most life and value from your new candle. Love candles? Mine are 100% soy wax, dye-free, and phthalate-free! Check them out here.
